We Are Scientists 6th album release “Megaplex”
The New York based electro-pop troupe We Are Scientists are back with a bang as they are set to release their sixth album; ‘Megaplex’, via 100% Records, on Friday 27th April. (Save the date!)
Having 5 previous albums, I’m sure their fans are wondering how the band will now sound?
Their first release ‘With Love and Squalor’ was an undeniable success, the American trio managed a huge success in England, with the 2006 album becoming a gold-selling hit. Their huge hit from their first album ‘Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt’ undeniably shaped mine and many others teenage years. The rough around the edges indie-rock tune still gets me dancing to this day.
I, myself recall dancing around as a teenager to their set at Reading festival 2010 and am ecstatic to hear how the band have flourished.
Opening the album with their first single release ‘One In, One Out’ the boys have welcomed us all to an exciting new era for We Are Scientists. The electro synth-pop is a lively turn for the band to take, and they have absolutely nailed it.
They don’t stop there, other recent popular releases ‘Heart Is A Weapon’, ‘Your Light Has Changed’ and ‘Not Another Word’ all feature on the 10 song album.
The album seems to be a blast of happiness, with a mixture of electro synth-pop and dance-worthy indie tunes. The bands focus with ‘Megaplex’ is to produce a refreshingly colourful and completely addictive album that will help to distract us all from the stress of life, as we know it.
“In the past we’ve used our music to educate, to enlighten, to awaken people to the depth and complexity of moral concerns. This time, we really wanted to drop a fun-bomb. Something to dance or f*** to,” states Chris Cain (Bassist)
‘Helter Seltzer’ their 2016 release started to touch down on their new sound, but with ‘Megaplex’ they have completely reinvented themselves from the old garage band indie rock sounds they used to produce.
Amongst the dreamy electro-pop tracks, there is also a splash of alternative indie-rock, sticking somewhat to their original sound. The album itself is an audio rollercoaster, with new sounds on almost every song. The excitement of different genres feels like you are listening to a mixture of artists.
The springtime release is perfect for this highly vibrant music. I could definitely picture myself dancing around in a field at a festival to these tracks.
With their new sound being a bit of a mash-up of The Wombats, Royal Blood, Glass Animals and Crystal Fighters, it is clear that this album will be a great success in this current shift of indie/alt-rock, electro-synth vibes.
