interview with the soundcasters
The Soundcasters are an exciting quartet from Maidstone, Kent. They are all aged in their early/mid 20’s and even though they are still young, they have a very mature, distinctive sound. They have a unique and varied style of song writing which marries various styles of pop, jazz, reggae and rock resulting in catchy, memorable tunes with well-written lyrics. Think swing music meets modern day indie, kind of very Paulo Nutini–esque. I have been lucky enough to meet with the band members to catch up on their tour anctics and what to expect in the future!
Hey guys! I hear you’ve been given a residency spot in the Alps! How did that come about?
In 2013 we went busking round Europe in an old white mazda camper van. Just for fun really! See new places and meet new friends, to be fair though after about a week we ended up staying in hotels with the money we had earnt on the streets instead of camping, it wasn't for all of us! One of the places we stopped of at was verbier in Switzerland as one of our friends was staying there. He introduced us one of the Venue owners and we asked if we could play a gig there for free, and he offered us free drinks for the night, which he may have regretted afterwards. It was so much fun, and they invited us back for the winter. Ever since our first winter playing there we've gone back over since and got into some other resorts too!

Awesome! Yeah, I know you’ve toured Europe! What was the most enjoyable moment on the tour, if you can even narrow it down to one?!
Most Enjoyable moment! There were many, it’s hard to put it down to one really. The venues we played were great! The Alps were amazing, taking boats out on lakes and Amsterdam was obviously good fun! Busking in the sun on the south of France was lovely though! Was amazing weather all the time we were there, playing along by the coast was where we earn't most of our money, by the restaurants, beaches, or in the local square. We had people dropping 100 euro notes into our bag in Cannes! Depending on how much we'd earnt we'd book a hotel, we'd then go to a bar to spend all the money we had earnt. There were no limits into what we could do, was a great time for all of us!

Are you working on any new material? (If so when can we expect it? Or if not, how comes?)
Admitadley we've gotten a bit boring latley! We started as an original only band, playing the local and London circuit like any other band, but at the beggining of this year we turned proffesional, quitting our other jobs. We had to make money, and playing weddings and functions with mainly covers was the only way we could go and make a living. This took away from the creativity or writting our own material

But...

We are pleased to say though we're in the early stages or writting some new material! We haven't had anything out for a while, and we want to make a new fresh sound that's different to the stuff we've done before. Though im not sure we even know what that sound is yet! There's about 4 or 5 songs that we’re working on the at the moment, but nothing has been taken into the studio, we hope to start recording by the end of the year and get it out there for everyone to listen too!

Have you got any major gigs coming up? (Where/ When?)
Were doing the local festival circuit again which is always good fun. Headlining Tentertainment on the 3rd of july, were then going back out the Alps on the 11th to a couple of dates out there in the mountains, which is always a pleasure to play! Even if there is no one there, it’s just an amazing place to play! We're also back at the old house at home on the 31st of july for a bank holiday special which is sure to get messy! We also have a small tour in in the southwest to look forward too in September!

What are your plans for the future?
The main thing we want to do is get new music out there for people to listen too! The weddings and functions pave the way, and we will go back to Switzerland and France for the winter, but we love being creative and making music is what we're all about! As soon as the music is out there we can only hope for the best and hope that the people out there like it!

Wow! Sounds promising for you! Thank you for such an interesting insight to what we can expect to come! Keep at it guys. You are awesome!
